Fixed a headache
My 97 T-Bird had a very bad coolant leak and I had to add water every day to keep it from over heating, the leak was not at the typical area for these manifolds, it was at the heater hose return, it had cracked down the peace of plastic that the hose clamps onto.By the way the manifold I replaced was not the original it had already been replaced from the warranty one time before.I think Ford should have to replace these throughout the life of the vehicle.The unit I purchased from Amazon was a perfect fit, it went in without a hitch and has cured my leaking problem.This is a quality part from a quality source.I searched everywhere and Amazon was the best place to purchase this item from, I even have a friend who works for a company that gets these manifolds at wholesale and Amazon still beats their price.If you need one of these buy it here you want be sorry... GREAT BUY FOR FORD/LINCOLN/MERCURY OWNERS
I bought this for my 96 Lincoln after I found out that my intake manifold cracked and it was past the deadline for the class action settlement from Ford. There are great instructions on the internet for the installation and it took about 7 hours from start to finish. The only problem was that one of the two temperature sensors would not come out of the old manifold and had to be replaced. The most difficult part of the installation was cleaning the mating surfaces. So far everything has worked fine. Top to learn more

Great Quality, Great Price, and a performance increase to boot!
The stock plastic intake on my 2000 Mustang GT finally cracked right where the upper radiator hose attaches to the manifold. I needed an intake fast to get my car back on the road so I ordered the Dorman 615-175 manifold.I've read good and bad things about the Dorman VS the Ford replacement. Folks on several Mustang forums say the Dorman has smaller runners than the Ford & that the performance isn't as good. Well, I'm here to tell you the performance on a mostly stock 4.6 with the Dorman intake is noticeably BETTER than with the Ford intake!The slightly smaller runners actually increase the velocity of the incoming air which gives a very noticeable increase in performance in the low to mid RPM range with no noticeable ill effect at high RPM all the way to redline.On a car with performance camshafts & reworked heads the Dorman is probably not the best choice, but if you have the stock cams and heads you WILL feel a noticeable increase in torque... Great price - great product.
Aluminum coolant crossover (visible in pic) in this aftermarket product is to correct earlier versions wherein eventually (10 year old car in my case) the (plastic) predecessor cracked. This one has all of the necessary gaskets pre-attached - great idea.Redid my 01 Grand Marquis. If you get organized beforehand, you can get the old one off in 2 hrsand the new one on in about the same time. I would budget 6- 8 hrs though if you are a newbie like me. Tips-1)label all vacuum connections with tape before disconnecting,2) Remove wipers, winshield cowling and wiper motor (easy off and big time /space saver)3) Remove throttle body but leave accelerator cables connected and set is to side in engine compartment (big time saver).4) Not a bad idea/time to change your water pump (30- 40 dollar item) since its accessible when you have other stuff off.5) Follow torque specs exactly because a) thing is mostly plastic (dont wanna crack it) and b) you... Good but not perfect
I bought this manifold for my 2000 Mustang GT, because the original manifold was leaking coolant around the thermostat housing and it had started running into the spark plug wells, which of course was causing misfires. Overall, the Dorman manifold seems to be of pretty good quality, especially for the price. However, I have a couple of issues with it. First, the universal alternator bracket that comes with it does not fit well on a Mustang GT. There is a large plate that interferes with several of the hoses that stretch across the engine. Second, the holes for the screws that secure the coils over the spark plugs are plastic and are not threaded. The original manifold had threaded metal holes. The "installation instructions" were vague at best, so be sure to have another source to assist in the installation, like a Haynes manual.Now that I have the manifold installed and new spark plugs, the car is running fine and I have not seen any more leaking. Reed reccomended a Ford intake manifold over a Dorman as did the Ford dealer citing some difficulties they had in the past in their service department. The only solution is to replace the intake manifold with one that has a reinfoced coolant crossover (it will be metal instead of nylon for this one area). In addition to a new OEM manifold I installed new o-rings on the injectors,a new EGR valve gasket,new spark plugs,serpentine belt and thermostat. :-) I finished my 1997 Town Car intake manifold changeover. :-) Eldon Sounds to me like your intake manifold has blown. To be sure, obviously you will have to check, but that is what my bet is. These cars had an all nylon intake on them from the factory and were prone to failure. If you look just behind the alternator, you should be able to see the front of the intake. Also, you should strongly consider changing the under intake coolant hose while everything is off. The rest of the intake remains nylon. With my Lincoln down it is like I have a family member in the hospital. My experience with a factory manual is the writer assumes factory trained tech but is deadly accurate regarding dissambly and re-assembly sequence as well as torque specs. We pay top dollar for everything here in Canada the Ford replacement is 524 and the Dorman aftermarket is 403.
The intake manifold is shaped slightly different so i had to redrill the holes for the two bolts that go into the intake. I wanted the factory manifold since the Dorman aftermarket manifolds use self tapping screws instead of bolts to hold the coils to the intake. Technically I have yet to positively identify the intake manifold as the problem but when playing with the fill hose from the reservoir at roadside it jetted steam from right behind/beneath the alternator. Eldon I am starting to come to grips with the fact that my intake manifold has failed. I am starting to come to grips with the fact that my intake manifold has failed. I ended up spending about 300 for new gaskets and a 2003 Factory Ford updated intake manifold. Any suggestions on how to get anti-freeze into the system so I can verify for sure the leak is in the manifold. Eldon Replacing the intake is not a technically difficult fix, except for removing the "crash bracket" on the rear of the driver's side cylinder head. They are both B-head 96-98 cobra intakes, upper and lower. The first one that I got I began polishing, but now thinking to powdercoat it Ford blue, the second is the standard grey.
