All vehicle manufacturers include a mechanical key inside the electronic key fob as a back-up. Most key fobs have release catches that allow you to remove the hard key. If not, the key is either simply pulled out or is spring released, which remains attached to the key fob. For full- and mid-size vehicles, insert the Intelligent Access key in the backup slot, located in the center console or the glove box ( Lincoln vehicles), depending on the model (see Images). To release the mechanical key blade in your Intelligent Access (IA) key for a Ford -made vehicle, slide the release on the back of the transmitter and pull the blade out (see Image). Use the mechanical key to pry off the covering (bottom Image) and place the Intelligent Access key into the slot.
